Weight

by Jennifer
(Italy)

I've been using this cream for a month (I was using another cream before this then it ran out). I ordered this, but unfortunately I had a break of about three weeks due to the change over.

So I started using this cream, but I've found that in this short period I've put on 2 kilo's and my tummy is very big and has cellulite, which i've never had. I don't know what to do. Do I continue, if so am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Progesterone/ NATPRO

I noticed your comments re weight gain on abdomen. Are you using NATPRO, I would be interested to know. I have been using this product on the skin for several years now, there are benefits, but I do feel that weight gain is certainly an issue. I cannot use drugs of any kind, hence my more natural choice. It depends also how much you use and where you apply it. I move the sites of use around as in John Lees book on progesterone, that seems to help.

Hi Jennifer If you are using the same amount of cream as you were before, then the weight gain is a possibility. It's caused by the higher amount of progesterone you are getting now which is stimulating oestrogen again. For more info please see Oestrogen Dominance. You don't say what strength of cream you were using, but if it was the standard 1.6% and you were using the amount of cream recommended which is about 1/4tsp, then you were getting about 20mg/day progesterone. If you are now using the same amount of cream you are getting double the progesterone. Even this is too low, I recommend between 100-200mg/day, anything less tends to cause oestrogen dominance. For more info please see How to use progesterone cream. Oestrogen and only oestrogen stimulates cells to divide and multiply, including fat cells. It also causes water retention, both of which cause weight gain. Progesterone opposes these two actions of oestrogen, but only if enough is used. It's most important to make progesterone the dominant hormone. For instance it's such a good diuretic, it's now being used via IV transfusion for brain trauma victims, to prevent the oedema and inflammation that occurs. It's also thermogenic, which means it increases metabolism slightly. Take care Wray

Progesterone/ NATPRO

Hi Maree I'm happy to hear you have had some benefit, but it would seem as if your progesterone level is possibly still too low, if you feel weight is an issue. Oestrogen is a mitogen, causing cells to divide and multiply, including fat cells. Progesterone opposes this action by stopping mitosis. I recommend using between 100-200mg/day progesterone, are you using this much? If not please consider increasing the amount, but please read the page on Oestrogen Dominance first. Take care Wray
