Progesterone withdrawal?

by Gh
(PA)

I have been on progesterone for close to three years now (and recently have went off of it). I was taking 75mg (but was having weird symptoms and found that my levels were very high). My integrative medicine doctor then reduced me to 50mg, and then told me to me to stop and see how I was.

I did this and now I have been having symptoms of forgetfulness, irritability, tiredness, feeling of being down, and just not like myself.

I am only 36, so I didn’t want to be on it forever. Is this normal? How much longer will it be for my body to adjust! It’s been almost 4 months now since I’ve been off!

Hi, I was 31 when I had a total hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries. Nobody told me I needed progesterone and what I was put on was supposed to be oestrogen but was made from horses urine. What works for me is taking 2 oral bio identical progesterone capsules which helps me sleep and relax but I also use bio identical progesterone cream which I put on my face and neck. It works for me and I feel really well. You need progesterone to balance the unwanted effects of too high amounts of oestrogen in the body. Remember your fat cells produce oestrogen so if you are taking an oestrogen supplement you won’t feel good for very long. Other people will have different thoughts and regimens but this works for me and I am now 67. Good luck.

Sadly, most medical professionals suggest using estrogen, which merely adds to Estrogen Dominance symptoms. The aim of progesterone therapy is to make it the dominant hormone at all times. Because progesterone is natural, they tend to ignore its benefits.

Any form of oral progesterone is not the best Delivery Method as around 96% gets destroyed by the gut and liver. If oral progesterone is used, supplementing with cream is recommended. Oral progesterone seems to help many with sleep but not others. I am pleased that it is working out for you.
