Saliva test results

Hi. Really enjoy this forum. I’ve been on bio identical hormones for about a year and a half due to severe hot flashes. My hormone saliva test recently stated very high estrogen and high progesterone levels however the est / pro ratio was in range.

If they are within the range why am I still having hot flashes?

Hi Pamela

I doubt very much that your ratio is in range. Progesterone/estrogen ratio should be around 600:1. You can work your ratio out by reading the Hormone Testing page. Progesterone always needs to be the dominant hormone, if not, adverse symptoms will persist.

Between 400-500mg progesterone is needed to help with Hot Flashes, you may even need to use more to get the flashes under control. Use this amount until the flashes have gone, then you can slowly reduce the amount of progesterone to a level that suits you but never use less than 100mg per day.
