crazy cycle

Hello,

I'm 47 years old. for the last 4 years I had my period coming evry 3 weeks. I hate it. & months ago, i went to a doctor who prescribes natural hormones, he gave me sliva test which showd my progesterone is low.

Since then nothing had changed, though he raised my dosage up to 400 mg per day, every day.

This time i had my period 12 days ago. 5 days of bleeding, and today it started all over again.

What's going on in my body? why is the progesterone does not work?

I'd like to mention I have MS, and the progesterone makes me feel good, therefore the doctor told me to use it every day.

thank you

Tsipora

Hi Tsipora Please confirm you are taking oral progesterone. If so, this is the least effective Delivery system, "The liver and gut region removed a mean of 96 per cent of the progesterone entering these tissues", see here. I suggest you open the capsules, add the contents to a small amount of skin cream and apply that, you will then get the full benefit of it. It should also be used a minimum of twice a day too. You are now in Peri-menopause when cycles do become very erratic. No amount of progesterone is going to change this. But if bleeding becomes very heavy, or continual which can occur, it does help. As do a number of nutrients, all listed on our Menstruation page. I'm pleased the progesterone is helping with the MS, it should, see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here here. Hi Tsipora But so does vitamin D, there's increasing evidence that it's possibly a lack of vitamin D which causes MS, please have a test done, see here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. Plus a lack of vitamin D reduces the benefits of progesterone, they work together. I suspect your levels are very low. Please have a test done. I'm pleased you're using the progesterone every day, with erratic cycles it's impossible to follow them. Take care Wray
