Crappy peri-menopause

by Denise
(Canada)

I'm having a crappy peri-menopause. A few months back I bought a 4 pack of Serenity and started it but then within a day or two was having wicked panic attacks.

I saw my gyno recently and he suggested I start using a progesterone cream for symptoms (I managed to get my anxiety under control with St. John's Wort).. anyway .. a couple days ago I started the Serenity again because I'm just so bloated I can't stand it.. but now I find myself feeling anxious again. I saw you said to drastically increase the dose. I'm afraid to do this... that I may have a really bad anxiety attack... anyway, would you know how much I should increase my Serenity dose to? Any idea how quickly I should get over the hump and start feeling better? I've definitely got all the Estrogen Dominant symptoms... On another note.. does all this crap go away once your period stops forever?

Thanks!

Crappy peri-menopause

Hi Denise I know how you feel, mine was hell too, but luckily I found progesterone before I did someone in! You mention a 4 pack, but I don't know what that contains, or how much you used. But by the sounds of things, far too little. I recommend 100-200mg/day progesterone, and if you have the Serenity I know, you would need to use 1 to 2 teaspoons of cream per day to get the 100-200mg/day. You might like to read this thread here, it is long, but gives you an idea of the ups and downs that can be experienced if the amount is too low. We do have a page on Anxiety which explains why it occurs and what to do about it. One of the best nutrients is inositol, this stops them, see here, here and here. Albeit 12 to 18g per day is needed, but worth it. I wish I could tell you how long it will take, but can't. What I have found is the more oestrogen in the system, the worse the symptoms and the longer it takes. Having said that, if a high amount is used initially, it can pass quickly. Before you consider increasing please read our page on Oestrogen Dominance first. There are some women who pass through Peri-menopause and Menopause with no symptoms, others who don't. Stress plays a big role, as it drops progesterone levels. I've been using it for 15 years, and won't stop, in fact I find minor symptoms come back if I'm stressed, so I just increase the amount. I imagine if I did stop entirely, the crap would come back for me! One thing which is overlooked are the 100 and more oestrogen mimics on the planet. These play havoc with us, and the only safe means of countering them is via progesterone. For more info see the website Our Stolen Future. Take care Wray
