Could Progesterone help me
by: Anonymous

I am 46 years old and have very little energy or libido. My periods have become heavier with a lot of clotting. PMS symptoms seem to carry over for the whole month. Acne, bloating and breast tenderness to name a few.

Could progesterone help me?

Hi Jackie I believe it could. The brown spots could be melasma, it's caused by excess oestrogen stimulating melanocytes, these make melanin, the pigmentation in all skin types. Please see here and here. It's often a sign of adrenal fatigue too. Progesterone does resolve the problem, as it suppresses the excess oestrogen and it takes the strain off the adrenals. These make progesterone before they can convert it into cortisol, one of our stress hormones. Stress drops progesterone levels, thereby allowing oestrogen to dominate. Progesterone does help mood swings and can help low energy. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you should consider using it, please see our pages on How to use progesterone cream and Peri-menopause. Excess oestrogen can cause the symptoms you've given, including Insulin Resistance. Amongst many things, IR can cause a lack of energy, please take a look at our page on it. I'm relieved you've stopped the HRT, in fact it could be one of the causes of your symptoms. Please have a vitamin D test done, the symptoms you've given could also be related to a low level. And with your sister having cancer, which shows she has, yours could well be low too. For more info please see the Vitamin D council and GrassrootsHealth websites. Your sister might like to see these two videos here and here. And our page on Cancer and progesterone. Take care Wray

Could Progesterone help me

Hi there You are now in Peri-menopause which is a very difficult time. Our cycles do become erratic, with heavier or lighter bleeding. Sometimes days between periods, sometimes months. Clotting is often present too. And yes, PMS does go on all month, don't I know! Yes progesterone could help you, I recommend 100-200mg/day progesterone, dependant on symptoms. I've found low amounts just don't help. But if you should consider it, please read our page on Oestrogen Dominance first. This is actually occurring to you now, as progesterone levels start dropping slowly from about age 35. But oestrogen doesn't stop till menopause. With excess oestrogen all hell breaks loose. Oestrogen also causes Insulin Resistance, which could account for your lack of energy. Take care Wray
