Can you please tell me how much progesterone to use?

I recently did a female saliva hormone profile and found my Pg/E2 ratio is horribly off, it is at 40 when the reference range is 100-500 ..... Also my D3 total is 29 when it should be between 32-100, T3 is low too... Can the progesterone help these problems ? How much to use and when? I had these tests done on the 19th day of my cycle... Please can you help me? Thank you....Im 35 years old, not sure if that makes a difference..

Hi there Having your age does help, it shows you're not in Peri-menopause. But from about age 35 we begin getting anovulatory cycles, when no progesterone is made. Which explains your ratio. We've found from Saliva Tests that it's best to have a ratio of 600:1 and over. Progesterone will certainly help, and with any adverse symptoms you have, you don't mention these but I imagine you just have some. I normally recommend 100-200mg/day, but it's dependant on symptoms. Some women need more, some much more. It is trail and error. Whatever you do please don't use too low an amount. I've found this merely exacerbates symptoms, or can initiate new ones. There's more info on our pages How to use progesterone cream, Progesterone Misconceptions and Oestrogen Dominance. Progesterone can often help the thyroid, so I suggest trying it first, and if your thyroid still needs help, then consider doing something about it. I'm glad you've had a vitamin D test done. Your level is low, like most of us. Although Progesterone and Vitamin D work together, progesterone won't increase levels, only the sun or supplements will do that. For more info on vitamin D levels, test kits etc see the Vitamin D Council, GrassrootsHealth, Birmingham Hospital and Vitamin D Links websites. Blood levels should be 70-100ng/ml and not the 30ng/ml most labs and doctors regard as adequate. The minimum daily dose should be 5000iu's per day, although the latest research indicates it should be 10,000iu's per day, see here. Please consider taking 10,000iu's per day to get your level up fast, and then have another test in about 3 months. Take care Wray

Yes I have so may symptoms such as panic attacks, insomnia, night sweats, hairloss, irritability, I cry super easy, foggy thinking, I forget things,I have problems regulating my sugar level, dizziness, and low libido. I'm hoping to feel normal again , I thank you for getting back to me and I cant wait to start on the Natpro. I see how much I am supposed to use but how do you measure it from the tube as there is no measurements or guidelines ,say 1/4 tsp is 100mg? I dont know.... Is there a measuring device? Thank you....

Hi Tiffany You do have a host of adverse symptoms, it doesn't surprise me looking at your ratio. It does help with all those you've mentioned, but does also require patience, they won't all go at once! It took 6 months for all mine to finally go, but then I wasn't using the amounts I recommend now. It will help the panic attacks, so will a number of other nutrients all listed on our Anxiety page. The night sweats too, see our page on Hot Flushes. We also have a page on Hair Loss. Our page on Insulin Resistance and Nutrition might help you with regard to the blood glucose problems. Progesterone can help with libido too, we have many men using it for that. But with the stress of everything you're going through, your dopamine is probably very low. This is essential for a normal sexual response. Please consider taking tyrosine for this, it's the precursor to dopamine. There's more info about it on our anxiety page. We don't have a measuring spoon, because so many have kitchen measuring spoons which are perfectly adequate. Or a 5ml medicine measure from a health shop. There is a chart too at the bottom of our page on How to use progesterone cream. Briefly 100mg requires 3ml (0.6 tsp) of cream, 200mg 6ml (1.2tsp) of cream. Please make sure you read the Oestrogen Dominance page before starting, it can come out of the blue. Take care Wray
