Can progestrone cream help me get my sexual feelings back?

by Beverly
(St. Thomas, usvi)

I am 55 years old and have been having feeling for sex off and on.

Sometimes it takes months before I really feel like I want to be intimate with my husband. My husband wants to be with me just about every nite but I don't but I go alone with it any way cause I think it is my duty to do so, but I wish I can feel the same way too. I remember how it use to be when I was younger and if I can get some of those feelings back I would be very happy and I know that it will make my husband happy too.

I recently started Maca supplement. So far, I see no other benefit BUT sex drive. I started it 2 weeks ago. My face is broke out and I have cried uncontrolled on a few occasions. I am hoping to reap other benefits but so far, certainly the sex drive is increased.

Can progestrone cream help me get my sexual feelings back?

Hi Beverly You could be lacking progesterone, it's highly likely, as you are now presumably in Menopause. If you should consider using it, this page gives info on how, when and where to apply it. Although the following paper is about men, progesterone and sexual desire, it can equally apply to women. It plays the same role in the body, see here. But before you start using it, please see our page on Oestrogen Dominance first, this can occur and leaves women very puzzled. Oestrogen levels are higher in menopause than progesterone, which is very low. Oestrogen increases the hormone prolactin. Although generally regarded as the hormone of lactogenesis, it suppresses dopamine. This neurotransmitter is needed for sexual desire, progesterone suppresses prolactin and oestrogen, see here, here and here. Plus these papers here, here, here, here, here and here. The amino acid tyrosine is the precursor to dopamine, please consider taking some, in case this is the problem. We have info on how to take it on our page Natural Antidepressants. Take care Wray
