Can progesterone help breast pain? For over 6 weeks I have had a very painful and heavy breast pain.

I have seen three Drs, and had a Mammogram all shows no abnormallity. Various tables, and creams including Antibiotics, anti-inflamitory tabs.

No more breast pain
by: Anonymous

I used to have breast pain and when I first started using progesterone it got worse. After the initial estrogen receptor "wake up" my breast pain got a lot better. In other words it got worse before it got better. Another thing that probably helped my breast pain even more than the progesterone was iodine. I take iodine capsules everyday and since doing that, my fibrocystic breasts completely cleared up.
Hope that helps.

Hi Dee Yes progesterone can help breast pain or mastalgia, and as the anonymous comment mentioned, iodine can do wonders too. See these papers on progesterone here, here, here, here, here and here. I recommend using 100-200mg/day progesterone, anything less usually exacerbates symptoms. I would also suggest you rub it directly on your breasts, as many times a day as you like. I'm not sure of your age, but we have a few pages with more info, see How to use progesterone cream, Peri-menopause and Menopause. It's so strange the ignorance surrounding sore breasts, and yet there is ample info if only they would look. Excess oestrogen causes water retention and inflammation, hence the sore breasts. So if you start using progesterone you will probably get Oestrogen Dominance symptoms. You might find you initially need more than the amount I've suggested, but there's not harm in going higher. I would never recommend mammograms either, see here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. I've run out of space so will start a new comment below. Take care Wray

Hi Dee Finally these are the papers here, here, here and here on iodine. An easy way to find out if your level is low is to get a tincture of iodine. Put 3 drops anywhere on the inner arm, rubbing them in with the dropper. If the patch fades in a few hours it means there's a deficiency. Continue applying it until the patch takes days to fade. Alternatively have a blood test. Take care Wray
