Regarding amount of progesterone

by Alona Rawlings
(Ontario, Canada)

Hello my name is Alona, I am 38 yrs old and since I was 32 I have been experiencing all the horrible symptoms people describe, weight gain, sweats, miscarrige, fatigue, mood swings, heavy periods, sometimes lasting for months or not getting it for months, and fibroids.

My doctor put me on Effexor which is an antidepresent, and said that it will regulate my hormones, and it helped a bit basically made me numb for 6 months, but I felt yucky, not like myself. I felt like I had to be on these antidepresents forever. I did research on hormones and came across progesterone cream and how it can help. I also read a book on Estrogen dominence, and it all made sense. So I tried the cream and started to notice a difference the first month. I got my menstral on time 28 days and I have never had my period in a 28 day cycle. It has always been aprox 35 to 45 days or so, if that even happened I was somewhat lucky at least I thought. Well I am on my 3rd month and I am noticing great changes, mood, energy, bleeding, cycle, sweating, have all gotten better.

Now what I want to know is the strength of the cream. I am currently on 21mg of progesterone cream 1/4 tsp morning and night. I have just purchased 6 bottles from your website as I found it better for my dollar, as you have 33.33mg of progesterone. I like the cream I am using now but do not like the price. Why does your product have more progesterone than most products out there that carry about 20-21mg of progesterone? I am nervous to change products as the one I use now seems to work good. Can you explain to me the benefits of more progesterone, and how your product will help me? Do you have Wild Yam in your product too, or is that the same as the progesterone cream? I am a little bit confused with that. Thank you.

Regarding amount of progesterone
by: Wray

Hi Alona I'm pleased the progesterone helped you, and that amount too. I've generally found between 100-200mg/day is needed. Our cream is a higher strength than most on the market, principally because of the work of Dr Dalton. She found high to very high amounts were needed to overcome most symptoms quickly. The other reason is to keep the price down, it's more cost effective making a stronger cream, this benefit can be passed on to the customer. If you're happy with the 40mg you're using now, then there's no need to change it. You would only need 1.2ml per day or about 1/4 tsp of ours to get the same amount. The benefit of using more progesterone just means the symptoms are alleviated faster. But if you do increase the amount please read our web page on Oestrogen Dominance first. No, there is no wild yam in our cream. Phytosterols, sometimes called phytoestrogens, are chemically similar to cholesterol which is found in animals. Cholesterol is the starting point for the hormones made naturally in animals, including humans. Plants such as the soy bean, Dioscorea species of yams, fenugreek, sisal, calabar bean, some lilies, yucca, some solanum species, maize and many more contain phytosterols. Some of which are stigmasterol, diosgenin, sitosterol, campesterol, hecogenin, smilagenin, sarsasapogenin, solasodine. As these sterols have a similar molecular structure to progesterone, they are used as starting points for the synthesis of progesterone. But none of the sterols are progesterone itself. Antidepressants do tend to numb people, but there are many nutrients which help depression and anxiety, in fact it's often because these are in short supply that depression sets in. You might like to read our page on Anxiety. Take care Wray

Hi Wray, thank you for getting back to me and I appreciate the extra info you sent me. I am looking forward to starting the cream. I was wondering if you could tell me approximately how long it will take to get to Canada? I ordered the cream on Aug 6th and it is now the 19th, I will have to start the cream on Aug 27th and I don't have any left. I'm hopeing it comes by then. Thanks, Alona.

[Note from Natpro Support...

Regarding chaste tree berry (vitex)
by: Alona rawlings

Hi Wray, I recieved the cream and have been using it, I needed to ask you a few questions...

1st When I am off the cream while on my menstral, I bleed for 7 days then I start it on day 12, however, I have noticed that after my period waiting for day 12 can be brutal. I get severe itching all over my body, feeling like I have bugs all over me, day and night. I also can't sleep at all, and find my mood somewhat off. As soon as I start the cream I start to sleep again and the itching goes away, my mood also improves. Do I have to wait for the 12th day?

2nd I was wondering if I could take chaste tree berry (vitex) while on the cream? I have been told not to take it when on the cream. I have taken it before when I did not know about the cream and it helped alot. Im just wondering if combined it would work even better.

I have noticed with your cream it seems to help me sleep better than the other cream I was on. i am using a little bit more than 1/4 teaspoon, and your cream has more progesterone, I actually sleep the whole night, whereas the other I might have slept half the night. So I am happy about that.

3rd My daughter is 13 yrs old soon to be 14 in september. She has very crampy periods and can be moody, can she take the cream too? Or is she too young? I have given it to her when she has severe cramps and within 20 min they go away, and she is cramp free all day. Tylenol barely works, not even close to how the cream works. I'm just nervous and I don't want to mess her system up. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regarding chaste tree berry (vitex)
by: Wray

Hi Alona I'm so pleased it's arrived, a little bit late but it shouldn't make much difference. I'm not sure who told you to use the cream on day 12, but it should be used from ovulation. So if your cycle is 25 days then day 12 is correct. For more info please see our page on How to use progesterone cream. Having said that, if someone has severe problems I recommend using it daily till they pass. So I suggest you do the same, as the itching sounds too awful. Itching can be caused by many things, but as you respond so immediately and favourably to the progesterone, I would hazard a guess you have excess oestrogen in your system. Oestrogen can cause cholestasis, which is a condition where bile cannot flow from the liver to the duodenum. Pruritus or itching is the primary symptom of cholestasis. It can occur in women the few days prior to their period starting. Please see here. Although I don't agree with the treatment used to stop the problem in this study, it does suppress oestrogen. Drugs have been known to cause it too, please see here. You'll notice oestrogen included in the list, in fact contraceptives can cause it. Progesterone does increase bilary output of cholesterol which probably accounts for the help it gave you. Please see here. I would also suggest you take 2000-5000mg/day taurine, this amino acid is vital for bile production. Please see here, here and here. Vitex does have oestrogenic properties so I would avoid it. I'm pleased our cream is helping you better, but please try to use between 100-200mg/day, I think you'll find it more affective. The 1/4tsp is giving you only ±30mg/day and please use it a minimum of twice a day. Your daughter is not too young, progesterone is given to pre-term infants with respiratory distress syndrome. I put my daughter on it when she was 14 due to similar problems. She's now nearly 29 and still uses it! She had no cycle to follow so used it daily, only when she was about 18 did she follow her cycle which was occurring every month. For more info please see our page on How to use progesterone cream, link given above. Take care Wray

when to use the cream
by: Wray

Hi Alona I'm pleased your cycle has become more regular, and it is within the normal range, although towards the long cycle end. The average is 34 days taking the lengths you've given above, which means you should be using the cream from day 21 for the next 14 days. But I'm concerned you say you get the itching and find it difficult to wait till day 12 when you were starting it. So please use it daily for a cycle or two, or until you feel confident you can stop it and follow your cycle. And please try the taurine too. Using the cream before ovulation as you were doing can stop it, although with low amounts it doesn't have much affect. But the higher amount I've asked you to use would. We do have a page on conception etc, please see the page on Pregnancy. Take care Wray
