Periods getting worse

by Frances

Hello. I hope you can help. Ive built up very slowly with progesterone cream. I take it every day as I'm in perimenopause. Was on 50mg, then 100mg and I am now at 200mg for this month but my periods and symptoms around them are getting worse not better on higher doses.

This month I had severe pms, then my period arrived with bad endometriosis pain, i felt sick and even started hot flushing. This is worse than my worst periods on no progesterone.

What should I do?

Hi Frances

I'm pleased to read that you have increased to 200mg. Any increase in the dose will affect things as the body adjusts.  Please continue to use this amount until your body adjusts.  It could be that you may even need to use more progesterone to get you over this. Once symptoms return to normal you can reduce back down to a level that suits you but NEVER less than 100mg per day as mentioned may times on the website.

You don't state your age, you could be in Peri-Menopause which starts at around 35.  Hot Flushes are common during this time.  Insulin Resistance can also cause hot flushes.  Have you been checked for this?

Endometriosis is caused by oxidative stress, you need to deal with your Inflammation otherwise you will always battle with this.  Include more fermented foods in your diet.  It is great for inflammation and is the best probiotic ever!  The use of progesterone can make things worse in the very beginning, but stick with it.  Try rubbing the cream on the affected area as often as needed.  Progesterone is an excellent anti-inflammatory.

So many forget about Vitamin D3.  A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone.  It is connected to every single functioning cell in our bodies making it vital.  Level should be optimal at all times.
