Need help!!

Where do I even begin??? I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and adrenal fatigue several years ago. I was placed on hydrocortisone for the adrenal fatigue and other supplements. It was a miracle! I dropped weight, felt so much better and slept better. Last year I lost my job and my insurance. I have not been able to go back to doctor or get labs or get meds. I haven't been on the meds in over a year. I held my weight for a while but in the past 10 months it has gotten strange. Overnight I grew "chicken wings" on my arms. I have never had that much flab on my upper arms, even when I was 240 lbs pregnant with my kids. I weigh 155 lbs currently (gained about 20 lbs seems like overnight 10 months ago). It was about the same time that my menstrual cycle changed as well. Instead of 28 day cycle, I have 21 day cycles. My moods are erratic, stretch marks are purplish, cystic acne (never had acne even when I was a teenager), bruising, alot of fluid retention especially during my daily walks, swollen cystic breasts, etc.

I am 39 years old with a copper IUD. Do I need the cream? If I do, then how much do I need and when do I apply it since I'm on a 21 day cycle? And where do I purchase it?

Thanks
Shelia

Need help!!

Hi Sheila Stress can play havoc with us, particularly the reproductive system, in fact it can stop ovulation. Anovulatory cycles do begin round about age 35 anyway, and increase in frequency through Peri-menopause, until Menopause when we stop making viable eggs. It sounds as if a combination of your age and the stress has caused your symptoms. Stress does drop progesterone levels. It sounds as if your testosterone has risen, as this not only causes Acne, but it increases visceral fat too, see here and here. This would account for the weight gain. Progesterone does reduce excess testosterone. If bound to SHBG testosterone becomes inactive, progesterone raises levels of SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), see here, so preventing the rise of free testosterone. SHBG drops if sugars are eaten, even those found in all grains, legumes, dairy and sweet starchy fruits and vegetables. Fructose, sucrose and glucose (all carbs are converted into glucose), reduce SHBG by 80, 50 and 40% respectively, see here. It's best to avoid all the foods and sugars mentioned. The water retention and Breast Cysts are caused by excess oestrogen. We have another page on Breast Tenderness. Progesterone is an excellent diuretic, now given to Traumatic Brain Injury victims to prevent oedema forming. We do have more info here on How to use progesterone cream. I recommend 100-200mg/day dependant on symptoms, more if they are severe. I'm happy you're using the copper T IUD, I did too, but you might consider taking about 15-45mg/day zinc. Excess copper causes mood swings, and it depresses zinc. Low zinc is often a cause of acne. If you should consider progesterone, please see our page on Oestrogen Dominance first. We do have a cream, you can look at the ingredients here. Take care Wray
