Link between bio-identical pellet implants and high blood sugar?

by Lisa S.
(Washington, MI USA)

Hello,
I am 47 years old, and very frustrated! At the age of 40, I was in full-blown menopause and miserable. If there was a symptom, I had it! My doctor had told me about the pellet implants the year before, so knowing they could relieve my symptoms, I was more than happy to get them. And, they were a God send! After getting implants every 3 months for 2 years, and taking 100mg of prometrium every day, my doctor decided to do some routine blood work. My blood sugar was 367. I have been struggling with my blood sugar for the past 4 years. I have been tested for types 1, 2, and 1.5 (LADA). I have tested negative for all types. I have the opposite of insulin resistance - I am extremely sensitive to it. If I use 3 units, no matter what I eat, I have a low. I do not have antibodies attacking the insulin I do make, so I don't have 1.5 (LADA). I definitely do not have type 1. I am not, nor have I ever been overweight; I am active....it makes no sense to me. The only thing that changed in my lifestyle was the HRT. Has anyone else experienced blood sugar problems? I am desperate for answers! Thank you in advance!

Thank you so very much Muphie! I have been so frustrated! A few things I forgot to mention. I have tried pills, insulin...the pills worked some, but not enough. The insulin as I mentioned, tiny amounts make me have sugar lows. Also, on both regimens, my joints ached horribly, especially my neck, hips; I had a frozen shoulder blade for over a year; headaches....once I stopped all of the blood sugar medication all-together, my aches are gone! I had also stopped getting the pellets for either a year or 2 years, I can't remember, but I did get them again about 3 months ago. I have since stopped everything, I stopped taking the Prometrium about 3 weeks ago and the pellets I'm not going to get again and just see what happens. My estrogen level at one point on the pellets was 209! I am so hoping to find some answers! I've seen at least 7 doctors, and nobody can figure this out. Thank you again for your response! I really appreciate it!

Link between bio-identical pellet impants and high blood sugar?

Hi Lisa

I would imagine, unless you had a hysterectomy that you were in Peri-Menopause at 40 which is a torrid time for most females. Unless you knew about the benefits of the correct use of progesterone, I can understand why you and other women take the advice and agree to the pellets, they should be banned! It's a scary time, and can cause many to think that they are going off their heads! It really is all so unnecessary and yet our wonderful medical professionals prefer to keep the drug companies happy, rather than helping their patients!

If you were taking prometrium you would have lost 96% of the progesterone as that amounts gets destroyed by the gut and liver. The 4% that you were actually getting was really enough to cause havoc with estrogen receptors. Any form of oral progesterone is not the best delivery method. Insulin Resistance really shows it's ugly head around Peri-Menopause/Menopause. I believe that you have been ill advised and with the correct use of progesterone and other vital nutrients you will feel the benefits.

So you have now hit the nail on the head here, "the only thing that changed was the HRT", that and Menopause of course. It caused terrible adverse effects. What is your Vitamin D3 level? A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone and is connected to every single functioning cell in our bodies making it vital.

Of course diet is always import, cut out all carbs, especially sugar.

Hi Joy,
Thank you so much for the information! I didn't have a hysterectomy, however menopause runs early in my family - I've had a hormonal balance all of my life also. And you're so right! If I hadn't had HRT, I would have probably quit my job, went to bed and not came out for 4 years! lol However, now that 7 years has passed, I'm doing much better now, except for the "diabetes". I just started my own version of the Paleo diet, and I'm hoping I can get this all turned around. Thank you so much again for the information!
