I have been on evorel50/100 utrogestan for 3 months &started to feel really nauseous. The dose was upped which I took for 9 days . Then I felt really awful , sick migraine/headache I have had very sore dry eyes but felt them to be worse , I decided to stop the hrt as I do not think I should be feeling as bad as this . Can hrt make dry eyes worse & do you think I should have gave hrt longer at lower dose , sometimes don’t know what to do for the best . I have heard about your product for dry eyes . I’m post menopausal, kind regards. 😊

Hi llene

You are correct, you shouldn't have felt so bad.  The reason being, I don't believe that any woman needs to take extra estrogen.  There are well over 100 estrogen mimics in the Environment as it is, why take more?  An imbalance was caused by taking estrogen and progesterone, both hormones are trying to become the dominant hormone.  Estrogen became dominant hence your dry eyes also known as Sjogren's Syndrom. Please read the Estrogen Dominance and How to use Progesterone Cream pages.  Progesterone needs to be dominant at all times. Is the Utrogestan oral or a cream?  If oral please consider using a cream as oral is not the best Delivery Method as about 96% gets destroyed by the gut and liver, see here. Usually between 100-200mg of a 3% cream is needed.

You certainly shouldn't have given estrogen longer to work but certainly progesterone.  It takes between 2-6 months of the correct use before one feels it's benefits. The Menopause page will also help you to understand more.

What is your Vitamin D3 level?  A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone as is connected to every single functioning cell in our bodies.

Wray, just to add it was utrogestan taken as a pessary, I also stopped that as well about a week ago . So can you keep taking it on it’s own, I’m very confused, I’ve started to bleed today ? Kind regards ilene . 😊

HRT

Hi Ilene

Wray passed away a number of years ago now.

Pessaries are good. Yes, you continue to use it on it's own, you would be defeating the object otherwise as per the links given already.

Good luck. Your body now needs to adjust, time and patience is needed.

HRT

Hi Ilene

Yes I agree. Any change in dose or change in brand causes an upset which is quite normal. The body needs time to adjust to the change. Your specialist should know this. It is not progesterone that causes your headaches/migraine but rather excess estrogen due to the HRT that you were taking and our environment. Progesterone is aggravating it as it fights to become the dominant hormone, the purpose of progesterone therapy. Again, this is normal.

Unfortunately with a pessary you can't rub it at the back of your neck and up the sides of your temples. That's the beauty of using a cream. Progesterone is an excellent anti-inflammatory and it would help those headaches which are again caused by excess estrogen. Estrogen is an excitatory, inflammatory hormone, it's involvement is hardly surprising. Other things could be causing your Headaches too, I am sure that you have had this checked out.
