Heavy heavy periods

I am 33 years old and I have been under a lot of stress the past few years with a very messy divorce. I believe the chronic stress lowered my progesterone levels and I started spotting and getting heavier periods nine months ago. I've been on birth control since I was 16 and the doctor switched my birth control to see if that would alleviate my symptoms. It's worse. I've had an ultrasound and they discovered a 1 cm cyst and three 1cm fibroids. They put me on a 14 day on and off progesterone 10mg pill. They tested my progesterone, but not with my estrogen levels. They said my progesterone was normal. I don't have my period the 14 days I'm on progesterone and start my period about 4 days after I stop taking the progesterone. Then my period is very heavy again, particularly in the morning. It almost disappears at night. I really would like to stop birth control completely and get back to a natural rhythm. I'm wondering if the small fibroids would be causing the bleeding, but I'm personally convinced I have a hormonal imbalance. Is there a way to wean off the progesterone pill with cream? Is there a hormonal significance with heavy morning periods disappearing by night???

Can your progesterone be normal but estrogen high to cause fibroids? Are the suggested supplements safe for people with autoimmune disorders?
