Eve's Apple getting bigger

by Susan
(Scotland, United Kingdom)

Hello

I was 50 in November last year (2015), and for the past 10 months have been having weird things going on - none explained. I note them as follows:

Itching for a period of time - now gone.
Burping and gas - ongoing.
Low iron discovered after bloods.
Sensation of something in throat, throat tightness - ongoing
Upper GI performed because of burping and low iron - all clear.
Slight breathlessness - ongoing.
Right eye very dry - ongoing.
Chest x-ray - all clear.
Camera up nose and into throat - all clear - Globus diagnosed.
Ultrasound on neck - all clear.
Since September my Eve's Apple has grown bigger. Not sure if this is a hormonal thing or not - quite alarming.

Am still having regular periods - think they are lighter though.

Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks.

Susan

Hi Susan

As far as I know that has nothing to do with hormones, or at least it has never been discussed here before. Perhaps you need to get a second opinion seeing that you have had various tests done already.

I can tell you however, that you are suffering from Estrogen Dominance symptoms hence your dry eye/s, also known as Sjogren's syndrome. This 'may' have something to do with your enlarge eve's apple, not sure. Burping and gas is more than likely your diet and mixing of certain foods. Mixing starches with protein causes gas and bloating, wheat being a major contributor to this. In fact all grains should be avoided.

You are also in Peri-Menopause where progesterone therapy is very much needed. Vitamin D3 is vital too, do you know what your level is?

Hello Joy

Thanks for your reply.

I am not sure about my D3 level. I have started taking Vit D3 2000iu per day about two weeks ago.

What should my vit D level be? I will get my doc to test for me.

I do have olive skin and tan well so I know I need more vit D than pale skinned people.

Thank you.

Hello Susan,

Never posted here before but have been on this site many times. Your post stands out because I am iron deficient also (not anemic). I am no expert but just wanted to give you some things to consider.

Low iron and thyroid go hand in hand. The feeling of something in your throat makes me think of goiter (enlargement) even though you mentioned ultrasound showed nothing. There is a good website called Stop the Thyroid Madness (STTM) you might look at. Iodine and selenium are necessary for thyroid function along with iron. The ferritin level is important for knowing iron levels as this is the measurement of stored iron in the body.

The burping and GI problems could be due to LOW hydrochloric acid in the stomache. My iron deficiency was due to h-pylori and SIBO (small intestinal bowel overgrowth). I take digestive enzymes 30 minutes before meals and Betaine Hcl tablets with my meals to increase stomach acid to help better absorb nutrients especially b12, folate and iron. I take ferrous fumarate for ease on absorption and also Spatone. Black strap molasses is good also but I live in US and don't know what's available in Scotland. Organic apple cider vinegar is helpful for digestion.

Vitamin D3 is so important. Check your levels but we all need more than we think. Vitamin K2 gets the vitD into the bones. Kerrygold butter has K2 but there are supplements you can buy.

Hopefully some of this info will help, just going off my experience. Good luck to you!

Eve's apple and vit d etc.

Hello Wendy

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my posting.

I am getting my doc to check my vit D next week. He is also going to check my testosterone level in relation to my alarming symptom of my enlarged eve's apple. My iron level was better a month ago but they will check that again too with the other two tests.

Re digestive issues - I have been reading up on probiotics and digestive enzymes and have decided to go the natural route and make my own sauerkraut and see how that goes. I have heard that digestive problems and breathlessness can come with the perimenopause.

It will be interesting to find out if my testosterone is elevated - kinda hoping it is as all this stuff that's going on with my body is freaking me out a bit :-(

Take care of yourself and thanks again for posting.

Hey Susan,

Perimenopause is challenging. Keep us posted on what you found out regarding testosterone levels.

I like fermented foods also. My boyfriend is from Thailand and we eat Kim Chi a lot (spicy fermented cabbage).

Good health to you!

Hi Wendy

It is just a crazy time with my body at the minute. Get the bloods taken on Tuesday for testo level ... hope that shows that levels are elevated - I really really do - so then at least there will be an answer as to why this is happening - nothing worse than seeing something every day that is so alien to you :-(

Ta for info on the cabbage option - still not made my sauerkraut yet ... will get there though. Oh and Morrisons supermarket here do Blackstrap mollases - saw them the other day :-)

Keep ya posted, bye!

Susan
