doing a saliva test and using progesterone

by Kathy
(Leiden, The Netherlands)

I did a saliva test before starting with progesterone cream, because i wanted a "baseline" and then found out the test was lost! while they sent me a new one, i was disappointed because i had wanted to know my baseline, but had already started using the cream. So i stopped for 3 weeks to a month (vacation etc) and then took the new test. My question is - is the progesterone level reported in the saliva my baseline, or would i have had to stop with the cream for longer than i did. I was only using the "physiological dose" recommended by Dr. Lee (1/8 tsp twice a day). I am in menopause. Anyone have the answer ?

Hi Kathy It's not essential to have a test done, symptoms are usually a better indicator. If you were only using 1/4 teaspoon per day, and I assume the cream was 1.6% in strength, then the amount of progesterone would not have made much difference. See our page on Progesterone Misconceptions. You might like to read our other pages on Menopause and How to use Progesterone Cream. Take care Wray
