Confused about hot flashes

Hi wray
I've been using progesterone for about 5 years the last year being natpro about 200mg a day.
On a number of occasions I increased to 500mg for a week to try to stop hot flashes with only a slight improvement but I feel lazy depressed and unmotivated. I understand from your site that increasing the dose causes estrogen dominance but have had no Ed symptoms other than fatigue and depression.
But what I don't understand is that when I used to have bloatiing sore breasts anger etc I never had a hot flash or night sweat and slept like a baby, so i am confused about things iv read that Ed causes hot flashes if so why do I get them more having no bloating or breast soreness. Also I think I've read every letter on this site and noticed that in reply to a letter I think in 2010 you said that men never get Ed symptoms from first using natpro then I read in a further letter reply that they can. I am 49 years old have no period since natpro hope this helps thank you in advance for your help thank you and god bless you

I used only progesterone for several years with also hot flashes. I also gained 50 pounds without changing my diet nor decreasing my exercise. I finally started taking pregnenalone sublingally. I order it from Swansons and have not had a hot flash since; plus I have started finally to lose weight. I also take 7-keto DHEA, which has gotten rid of my ezcema (because when I quit taking it, my ezcema came back)... I have never had a problem with 7-keto DHEA converting to the sex hormones. I feel so much better; my memory and thought process is so much better with pregnenalone - just progesterone did not do that for me.

Hi there You are right, I do say increasing the amount can cause Oestrogen Dominance. It's a precautionary note, as not everyone does, I don't. But so many women do I'd rather they knew they might than say the reverse. I'm sorry the 500mg/day has not helped the Hot Flushes, it normally does. I would ask you to look through this page we have, it hasn't been up long, and see if you can find any clues to what could be causing them to continue. Sometimes taking GABA or tryptophan has helped some women to stop them, you could consider this too. I wish I could answer your query about getting the hot flushes, but have no bloating or Breast Tenderness when you do. The body is so complicated, there's no way of telling how each one of us will react, when or with what symptom. I wish there was, it would make life so much easier for us! Possibly you're slightly older than you were, have you had more stress recently, changed your diet, there are too many variables. I do recall saying men don't get oestrogen dominance, it must have been early on. But I've helped many men now, and they do, some quite badly too. It appears to be exactly the same cause as us, too much oestrogen. Bless you too and thanks for trying the Natpro, take care Wray

Hi there I'm so interested you found the pregnenolone helped you. It could be you were not using enough progesterone, as often too little merely stimulates oestrogen, causing weight gain. Oestrogen is a mitogen, causing proliferation of cells, including fat cells. Progesterone speeds metabolism slightly, so doesn't in itself cause weight gain. The 7-keto DHEA is far better than DHEA itself, which does have adverse side effects, see here, here, here and here. The 7-keto doesn't, see here. Take care Wray

The comment about pregnenolone and 7-Keto piqued my interest...you seem like you are having excellent results by taking these! Can I ask how much of a dosage of each you take? Did you see weight loss relatively quickly or did it take awhile?

Hi, this is an answer to your question. I buy the 50mg capsules, but that is too much for me; I break open the capsule and pour some out and put it under my tongue, they are only $2.49 for 60 capsules. I would say I take about 35mg - 40mg of pregnenalone. The 7-keto DHEA is 100mg.
