Can you use Progesterone symptomatically?

by Jennifer

Hello! Something I have not come across on the website yet.. can you use Progesterone systematically... for example, just when pain hits? I have a pre-ovulation pain that strikes 2-3 days before ovulation. I am wondering if I can rub 400mg of the cream on when I get the first twinges of the pain coming on and then for the few days leading up to ovulation when it stops and see if that nips it?

Are there any bad effects from taking it like this - as needed, and not cyclic? Would just prefer to not have to take something everyday if I do not have too, but also don't want to risk throwing my system out of whack.

Thank you, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

Using progesterone systematically would disrupt your cycle. Progesterone should only be used from ovulation (Luteal Phase) for the last 14 days of the cycle if you have a regular cycle. If not, then use every day. The How to use Progesterone Cream page explains so much. Try using more progesterone when you start to experience the pain, it may help.
